Let me tell you why I love walking with God. When he’s teaching me a lesson, he teaches it to me over and over again. He provides examples, many scriptures and is sure to break it up so that I understand it. This morning he gave me this gift …
If I need to wake up earlier in the morning. I don’t get there by focusing on getting up as it is a nearly impossible task.
Instead, I focus on what time I’m going to sleep. Despite the world’s best alarm, waking up will be a struggle if I don’t go to sleep at a decent time and sleep well.
Same for our life with God.
The gospel promises a life of abundance. A life filled with the fruit of the spirit.
… the fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Galatians 5:22
We don’t get there by trying to show love; trying to be joyful. No. The bible says, he
… who meditates on his law day and night. That person is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season. Psalms 1:2-3
My son, pay attention to what I say; turn your ear to my words. Do not let them out of your sight, keep them within your heart; for they are life to those who find them and health to one’s whole body. Proverbs 4:20-22
What we feed our hearts and minds determines what flows from them. Feed them good food. Feed them the Word of God and you will be like a tree planted by the by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season.
One last word of precaution. This does not happen by mistake. We must be intentional. Facebook, TV, our friends can easily give us the opposite of what these scriptures recommend. Seek the Word.
